About the position
Wake County Social Services is seeking dedicated Eligibility Caseworkers to help provide essential resources to the community. These professionals ensure residents receive the support they need by evaluating eligibility for critical programs that impact health, safety, and long-term stability. This is a hybrid role, allowing for 50% in-office and 50% virtual work, offering flexibility and connection. The position involves determining and maintaining ongoing eligibility for Adult Medicaid Long Term Care, Special Assistance, and/or the Community Alternative Program for Children (CAP-C). Responsibilities include processing applications, managing cases using NCFAST and OnBase, entering accurate and timely data, referring clients to community resources, staying current on policies, providing backup support, contributing to emergency preparedness, and documenting case activity electronically. Responsibilities
• Determine and maintain ongoing eligibility for Adult Medicaid Long Term Care, Special Assistance, and/or the Community Alternative Program for Children (CAP‑C)
• Process applications and manage cases using NCFAST and OnBase
• Enter accurate, timely data to ensure benefits are authorized correctly
• Refer clients to appropriate community resources when additional support is needed
• Stay current on policies and procedures through continuous training
• Provide backup support to fellow case managers
• Contribute to emergency preparedness and response efforts, which may involve temporary adjustments to duties or hours
• Document case activity clearly and consistently using our electronic systems
Requirements
• Associate's degree in Human Services or a related field
• Two years of job-related experience
• Equivalent education and experience are accepted
• Ability to identify issues, obtain relevant information, relate and compare data from different sources, and identify alternative solutions
• Knowledge and strong understanding of Adult Medicaid policy and the ability to interpret new and changed policies
• Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients by listening to the clients and understanding and responding to identified needs
• Ability to explain Medicaid policy in layman's terms to beneficiaries, family members, and facility representatives
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to complete varied tasks in a timely manner
• One year experience in Adult Medicaid Program in Social Services
Nice-to-haves
• Two (2) years of experience determining eligibility in Adult Medicaid, Long Term Care, Special Assistance
