The Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations (AMPERS) has an IMMEDIATE opening for a highly experienced journalist to research, write, produce, and edit a daily five-minute newscast highlighting the headlines from the past 24 hours from around our state. This is a one-year full-time position with benefits that will end on June 30, 2027. Reporter/Producer/Anchor, North Star Stories Daily Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations Full-Time Temporary Position www.AMPERS.org AMPERS is the largest statewide association of community radio stations in the United States, comprised of 17 independent community radio stations in Minnesota. The stations primarily serve underserved populations, including greater Minnesota, tribal nations, diverse communities, and students. AMPERS helps member stations serve their diverse communities by generating revenue, developing and sharing programming, and works to correct the narrative regarding historically underrepresented communities through accurate storytelling and reporting. AMPERS produces North Star Stories, a weekly 30-minute magazine-style newscast. North Star Stories, a daily five-minute newscast, North Star Stories en Español, a five-minute weekly newscast in Spanish, Minnesota Native News, and much more. This position will be responsible for producing the daily newscasts Sunday – Thursday to air Monday – Friday. AMPERS is seeking a highly experienced journalist to identify and report the top news stories of the past 24 hours from around the state. The position will be responsible for collecting audio to use in the newscast, writing, producing, editing, and distributing the newscasts to the stations. The ideal candidate has extensive experience writing, producing, and editing radio newscasts. The newscasts will focus on stories and perspectives not reported in traditional media with an emphasis on underserved communities defined as BIPOC, those living with a disability, new immigrants, members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, Veterans, and those living in Greater Minnesota. Duties Will Include • Identifying the top stories from around the state from the past 24 hours • Conducting interviews as needed for each newscast • Researching, writing, and producing five daily 5-minute newscasts per week • Identify and establish partnerships with local newsrooms and community journalists around the state • Attend press conferences, community events, and respond to breaking news stories as needed (if candidate is located in Minnesota) • Distribute newscasts to stations • Assisting the VP of News with adapting daily stories for the weekly newscast • Post newscasts and breaking news on social media • Ensure all stories are factually accurate and all names are pronounced correctly • Upholding journalistic standards and ethics • Ensure all content complies with FCC, fair use, and copyright laws and guidelines • Collaborate closely with the Director of News Programming & CEO • Other duties as assigned by the Director of News Programming & CEO Required Qualifications • Extensive experience reporting, writing, producing, and editing radio newscasts • Extensive experience meeting newscast deadlines • Organized and detail-oriented • Excellent communication skills Desired Qualifications • Experience working with and reporting about diverse communities • Established news sources in Minnesota • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience Work Environment • 100% remote (with the exception of some in-field work if located in Minnesota) • Family-friendly environment • Strong commitment to diversity • Candidate will report to the Chief Executive Officer Commitment to Diversity, Inclusivity, and Equal Employment AMPERS strongly encourages women, people of color, Native Americans, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, people with disabilities, members of ethnic minorities, foreign-born residents, and Veterans to apply.
