The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) is responsible for collecting revenue that supports essential public services in California. The Business Taxes Administrator I will manage compliance and administrative functions, promote compliance, deter fraud, and lead investigations to ensure adherence to tax programs administered by CDTFA.
Responsibilities
- Manage and control vital day-to-day operational functions to promote compliance, deter fraud/tax evasion, and enhance compliance for all programs administered by CDTFA
- Direct team members to conduct investigations, identify non-compliant entities, review, research, and act upon leads
- Visit businesses, analyze cases, and evaluate books and records and financial documents
- Integrate and apply practices, policies, and procedures across both compliance and audit functions
- Work with external teams to keep work coordinated, managed, and productive
- Motivate, train, and develop team members and monitor employee performance
- Travel up to fifty percent (50%) of the time, including overnight travel

- Position requires employee to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a background investigation
- Travel is required fifty percent (50%) of the time
- Position may require overnight travel for up to one or more consecutive nights to meet training requirements
- Have a permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA, or
- Are current or former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years as defined in Government Code 18990, or
- Are current or former non-elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years as defined in Govt. Code 18992, or
- Are persons retired from the United States military honorably discharged from active duty with a service disability or honorably discharged from active duty as defined in Government Code 18991. Applicants must provide a copy of discharge papers (DD 214) for verification purposes at the time of application
