About Wayfair and the Role

As a Chief Architect, you will play a critical role in designing and building a scalable platform that interfaces with various systems within and outside Wayfair, driving business growth and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical lead in the critical space, designing and building a platform that interfaces with various systems within and outside Wayfair, and partner globally.
- Develop and drive a long-term technology strategy for Wayfair's Fintech and Loyalty ecosystem, shaping the future of our payments platform.
- Design and review code to implement high-quality, scalable, future-proof services that will have compelling infrastructure limits and support long-term vision and strategy.
- Lead technical discussions across the entire platform and help reach robust documented resolutions, driving high-impact architectural decisions.
- Drive high-influence architectural solutions and involved development, including inception, design, execution, and delivery following great design and coding practices.
- Fanatically focus on production readiness for the team, including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and proactive troubleshooting.
- Identify risks and gaps in technical approaches and propose solutions to meet the department's technical vision, ensuring the highest level of quality and innovation.
- Influence and contribute to the department's strategy and roadmap, shaping the future of Wayfair's fintech and loyalty ecosystem.
- Support the growth of other architects through coaching, mentoring, and creating opportunities for instruction, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
- Be recognized remotely as a collaborative and trusted thought leader for the broader team's core area, driving innovation and excellence.
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- 2+ years of experience in engineering, with a preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large company experience.
- Payments engineering domain expertise, particularly experience with larger scale integrations (Credit Cards, funding, BNPL, applications).
- E-commerce or customer-facing technology experience on a high-traffic site is a significant plus.
- Hands-on experience driving software changes within high-growth environments at scale.
- Experienced in architecting and building large-scale, cloud-based technology.
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrated experience driving teams forward and the ability to influence outcomes.
Technology Requirements
- Exposure to cloud-native technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) at scale.
- Distributed systems experience.
- Data-based technologies in the cloud.
