Job Summary
Under the supervision and direction of a Track Supervisor, Foreman, or other assigned employee, the successful candidate will perform various track maintenance, repair, and construction duties with a strong focus on safety. Key Responsibilities
- Transport, load, and unload materials and equipment as required
- Operate track maintenance equipment, power tools, and hand tools, such as portable grinders, spike pullers, rail saws, track wrenches, and spike drivers
- Load, unload, and handle materials and equipment as instructed, ensuring safe and efficient operations
- Provide safety watch for other team members while they are working, promoting a culture of safety and accountability
- Assist other employees when and where instructed, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and collaboration
- Adhere to FEC Safety Policies & Procedures at all times, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards
- Travel as required, depending on the section, to perform track maintenance and repair duties
- Perform other duties or tasks as assigned by the manager, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
Working Conditions
The successful candidate will be required to work in a variety of environments, including outdoor weather conditions, and may be exposed to loud noises and other hazards. The ability to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk, hear or smell is regularly required. Occasionally, the candidate may be required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Driver's License
- Completion of annual training and passing safety and track worker rules examinations
- Ability to operate railway highway motor vehicles and qualify for a motor car maintainer permit
- Successful completion of all FEC Rules Classes, Safety, Operating, and Roadway Worker, and obtaining FRA A & B certifications within 30 working days
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (preferred)

- Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
