About the Role
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Performance, the Strength & Conditioning Assistant Coach will play a crucial role in designing and implementing comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for varsity teams, with a focus on men's basketball, men's and women's track, and one other team. This full-time position requires a strong passion for athletic development, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic trainers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement physical development programs to enhance strength, speed, cardiovascular endurance, and sports-specific skills for assigned teams and student-athletes.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the strength room, including equipment maintenance, record-keeping, and ensuring a safe and organized training environment.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Training Staff to design and implement injury prevention and recovery programs for assigned teams and athletes.
- Work directly with student-athletes to assess their needs, provide guidance, and monitor their progress.
- Participate in continuing education opportunities to stay current with the latest techniques, trends, and advancements in strength and conditioning.
- Assist with the rehabilitation of sports-related injuries to student-athletes, under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Performance.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Biomechanics, or a related field.
- A certification in strength and conditioning (NSCA/CSCS or SCCC).
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in strength and conditioning, preferably at the collegiate or professional level.
- Experience with multi-sport weight training programs and individualizing workouts to reduce the risk of injury and enhance performance.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- A Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience as a graduate assistant/intern or assistant strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate or professional level.
- Knowledge of alternative training techniques, including plyometrics, speed and agility programs, and conditioning exercises to enhance sport-specific skills.
