Senior Music Transcriber — MIDI & Notation (Generative Music)
$55-$110 per hour
Part-time position Remote
Mercor is hiring senior music transcribers to produce multi-track MIDI transcriptions of full compositions for a frontier generative-music AI lab.
This is the highest-skill music-understanding work: separating the parts, identifying every note — its pitch, timing, and velocity — and the underlying harmony, then writing them down as symbolic ground truth, one instrument per track and aligned to the audio.
You'll:
• Transcribe full mixes (or provided stems) into accurate multi-track MIDI
• Capture pitch, onset, duration, velocity, harmony/key, modulations, and polyphony
• Follow a consistent MIDI spec (quantization, tempo map, drum mapping, pitch bends)
You're a fit if you:
• Have professional transcription/notation experience (session work, arranging, engraving, or equivalent)
• Are fluent in a DAW or notation tool (Logic, Cubase, Reaper, Pro Tools, Sibelius, MuseScore, etc.)
• Can transcribe polyphonic, multi-instrument material accurately by ear
• Have strong music theory (harmony, voice leading) and rhythmic precision

Contract and payment terms:
• You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
• This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule.
• Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
• Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
