About the position
The Really Great Teacher Company is seeking a passionate and professional ESL teacher from South Africa to conduct one-on-one conversational and assessment-based English lessons for adult Japanese students. This is a fully remote position with a structured platform and students who actively choose to return for lessons. The role focuses on individual student connection, moving away from the 'crowd management' feel of back-to-back group classes.
Responsibilities
• Deliver one-on-one, 25-minute conversational and assessment-based English lessons to adult Japanese learners.
• Teach English across all CEFR proficiency levels, from absolute beginner to advanced.
• Adapt to student needs and learning paces.
• Be schedule-aware and responsive, knowing your assigned shift and adapting to changes.
• Option to cover classes for absent teachers.
• Provide a brief, encouraging message to students after each class (approx. 2 minutes).
Requirements
• 3-year National Diploma (minimum qualification)
• Completed, accredited 120-hour TEFL certificate or equivalent
• Minimum 1 year of ESL teaching experience
• Able to teach English across all CEFR proficiency levels (beginner to advanced)
• Energetic, student-focused, and comfortable teaching online
• Schedule-aware and responsive
• Clear and effective communication
• Patience and empathy with learners at all levels
• Positive attitude and professional presence
• Strong time management and organisational skills
• Adaptability in a dynamic, student-driven environment
• Problem-solving mindset
• Computer: Processor minimum 2GHz / 4 CPU; RAM minimum 8GB
• Internet: Fibre connection with LAN cable; minimum 20 Mbps upload and download speed
• Backup power: Required (load shedding/power outage preparedness)
• Webcam and noise-cancelling headset
• Quiet, private, well-lit teaching space with a neutral background
