About the DepartmentThe Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management is a multi-disciplinary department that prepares students for management, planning, and other leadership positions in parks, recreation, tourism, sport, and professional golf management. Since 2000 the department has awarded over 2,500 baccalaureate degrees and more than 400 masters or advanced degrees. The mission of the Department is to advance and disseminate scholarship concerning the management and use of natural and cultural resources for recreation, tourism, and sport through research, teaching, and public engagement. PRTM faculty enjoy a vibrant, collegial, and scholarly environment supportive of innovative high impact research, teaching, and community engagement.
Essential Job DutiesThe successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and innovative instruction in a student-centered environment. Enthusiasm for active and collaborative learning and high interest in instructional use of technology and online teaching are fundamental to this position. Moreover, the candidate must demonstrate potential to advance the scholarship of teaching and learning, and be committed to continuous improvement of the department's curriculum.The candidate will be expected to teach a minimum of three courses per semester in the core curriculum of the Department, specifically in the sport management curriculum. Candidates with teaching specializations and expertise in any aspect of sport management, sport event management, eSports, sport marketing, sport programming, recreational sports, and youth sports or other closely related fields will be considered. Candidates with background and expertise in the intersections of sport and the natural/built environment, event planning and marketing, and recreation planning are highly desirable.The candidate will be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate students and actively participate in curriculum development and assessment.
Other ResponsibilitiesCollaboration with other faculty in the department and across the College on teaching, advising, and student support services is expected. The candidate is expected to develop and maintain community or industry partnerships to support teaching and learning. Service to the department, college, university, and to the profession is also expected.
