Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Virtual Service Operations is searching for an AWS Technical Writer to join their dynamic team supporting a DoD program. The role involves creating, maintaining, and improving technical documentation for a complex IT environment, collaborating closely with engineers and developers to ensure clarity and accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including user guides, system manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), runbooks, and API documentation
- Collaborate with engineers and SMEs across development, infrastructure, and security teams to gather information and ensure documentation accuracy
- Document system configurations, deployment procedures, and operational workflows
- Maintain version-controlled documentation aligned with system updates and releases
- Support ATO and compliance efforts by producing and maintaining required documentation artifacts
- Ensure consistency in terminology, format, and style across all documentation
Skills
- 7–9 years of experience producing technical documentation for IT systems or software development environments
- Experience documenting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments, including system administration procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting guides
- Familiarity with UNIX/Linux command-line operations sufficient to understand and document technical processes
- Proficiency with documentation tools (Confluence, SharePoint, or similar)
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services, including hands-on documentation experience with EC2, and general exposure to the broader AWS ecosystem (S3, VPC, RDS, Lambda, etc.)
- Experience with version control systems (Git)
- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and ability to work within sprint-based delivery teams
- 7 - 9 years of professional experience
- Must be willing to work remotely
- Active Secret clearance required; Top Secret preferred
- Ability to translate complex technical content for varied audiences (engineers, end users, leadership)
- Strong attention to detail and excellent editing/proofreading skills
- Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-focused environment
- U.S. citizenship status required
- Experience supporting DoD or federal government IT programs
- Familiarity with RMF/ATO documentation processes (SSPs, POA&Ms, security control documentation)
- Experience documenting APIs and RESTful services
- Familiarity with defect tracking and project management tools (JIRA, Confluence)
