Michels Corporation is one of the largest and most respected power delivery and electrical construction contractors in the United States. The Director of Operations will provide executive-level leadership over regional and national operations supporting complex industrial, energy, and mission-critical electrical construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee multi-project, multi-region industrial electrical operations
- Partner with the Vice President to define and execute strategic growth, operational excellence, and market expansion initiatives
- Drive P&L performance, operational efficiency, and margin improvement across business units
- Champion a best-in-class safety culture across all projects, teams, and regions
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and client-specific safety standards, particularly in high-risk industrial environments
- Oversee execution of large-scale, complex electrical construction projects across industrial and energy sectors
- Ensure alignment on scope, schedule, budget, quality, and commissioning performance
- Support high-risk or critical projects with executive oversight and decision-making
- Provide executive oversight for estimating, constructability, and bid strategy
- Support growth initiatives across industrial EPC, energy, and data center markets
- Strengthen relationships with clients, EPC partners, utilities, and developers
- Build, mentor, and develop high-performing operational and project leadership teams
- Drive accountability across Project Managers, Construction Managers, and field leadership
- Support workforce planning and long-term talent development strategies
- Oversee execution in commissioning-intensive environments, including: Power generation startup and energization, Industrial system testing and turnover, Data center critical system commissioning (where applicable)
- Ensure successful project closeout, client satisfaction, and repeat business
Skills
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in power, industrial, or electrical construction operations, including leadership over geographic regions
- Proven experience managing heavy industrial electrical and inside wiring projects
- Prior experience in Project Management and operational leadership roles
- Demonstrated success in team development, succession planning, and organizational leadership
- Ability to travel extensively, including extended durations up to 100% as needed
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Experience supporting Oil & Gas, industrial EPC, power generation, hydroelectric, or data center projects
- Strong understanding of commissioning-intensive project environments
- Experience managing large-scale, multi-project portfolios
- Familiarity with medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, switchgear, and critical infrastructure systems
