The Editorial Data Reporting Intern will contribute to data-driven journalism, working closely with the data team to research, analyze, and present data for publication. This internship offers hands-on experience in a collaborative newsroom environment.
Responsibilities
- Research and develop at least one original, data-focused enterprise story for publication during the internship
- Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, insights, and support ongoing editorial projects
- Contribute to data gathering, cleaning, and interpretation from multiple sources, including public records
- Collaborate with reporters and editors to integrate data into news and feature stories and shape story ideas
- Support the creation of data visualizations for stories and special projects
Skills
- Be a recent graduate with a bachelor's or master's degree in data journalism, communications, or a related field of study
- Experience working with and incorporating data into news or feature stories (academic, internship, or personal projects)
- Demonstrate the ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data from diverse sources, including public records
- Experience cleaning and organizing complex or messy datasets
- Possess working knowledge of data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, and/or R
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a strong narrative and visual storytelling ability
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with editors and reporters
