Thunderhawk Technology Partners is seeking an experienced Electrical Hardware Design Engineer to support the design and development of advanced avionics products. The role involves circuit design, PCB development, and collaboration with various engineering teams to ensure successful hardware integration and validation.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support avionics hardware for Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) systems
- Perform analog, digital, and RF circuit design, analysis, simulation, and optimization
- Develop schematics, support PCB/PWB layout activities, and generate engineering documentation
- Collaborate with systems, digital, power, mechanical, manufacturing, and test engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle
- Perform hardware integration, verification, validation, debugging, and troubleshooting
- Support production, manufacturing, and sustaining engineering activities
- Conduct design reviews and implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) methodologies
- Develop and execute hardware test plans and verification procedures
- Translate system-level requirements into detailed hardware designs and specifications
- Utilize laboratory test equipment to validate hardware performance
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and technical decision-making
Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or another STEM discipline
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience
- Experience designing analog, digital, and/or RF electronic circuits
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, circuit analysis, debugging, and hardware troubleshooting
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools
- Hands-on experience using laboratory equipment including: Oscilloscope, Digital Multimeter (DMM), Network Analyzer, RF Power Meter
- Experience supporting hardware bring-up, validation, integration, and production
- Familiarity with embedded hardware development and hardware/software interaction
- Strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience with aerospace, avionics, defense, or mission-critical electronic systems
- Knowledge of Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) avionics products including: DME, VOR/LOC, ILS, Marker Beacon, GNSS, ADF, Radar Altimeter
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), yield improvement, and producibility
- Experience using SPICE simulation tools such as LTspice, PSpice, or TINA
- Experience with ECAD tools such as Mentor Graphics Xpedition, Cadence Allegro, OrCAD, or Altium Designer
- Knowledge of RF and microwave circuit design including: Power Amplifiers (PA), Low Noise Amplifiers (LNA), RF Receivers, RF Transmitters
- Experience with RF simulation tools including HFSS, ADS, Microwave Office, or MATLAB
- Familiarity with FAA Technical Standard Order (TSO), RTCA/DO-160, and MIL-STD-461
- Experience developing hardware specifications, verification plans, and technical documentation
- Ability to lead technical discussions and mentor engineering teams
