SoTalent is seeking an experienced Principal AWS Cloud Engineer to design, build, and lead the evolution of secure, scalable cloud platforms. This hands-on technical leadership role requires collaboration with various teams to deliver cloud-native infrastructure and implement AI-assisted engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain secure, highly available AWS environments focused on reliability, scalability, performance, and cost optimisation
- Develop reusable cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or similar)
- Build and support Kubernetes-based workloads, including EKS deployments, Helm releases, autoscaling, networking, and observability integrations
- Implement cloud-native architectures across compute, networking, storage, identity, databases, containers, and serverless technologies
- Champion AI-assisted engineering by identifying high-value use cases, developing enablement resources, and mentoring engineers on AI-powered development tools
- Collaborate with engineering, security, architecture, and operations teams to modernise applications and improve cloud delivery practices
- Implement security best practices, including IAM, encryption, secrets management, network segmentation, and compliance controls
- Improve platform reliability through monitoring, logging, alerting, incident response, automation, and operational excellence
- Review cloud solutions against AWS Well-Architected Framework principles and internal engineering standards
- Troubleshoot complex cloud, infrastructure, networking, and deployment issues
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across AWS, Kubernetes, automation, and cloud engineering best practices
Skills
- 10+ years of engineering or IT experience, including 5+ years focused on AWS cloud engineering, platform engineering, automation, or cloud architecture
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS services including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, Lambda, RDS/Aurora, EKS, CloudWatch, and Route 53
- Experience designing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or similar tools
- Strong scripting or programming skills using Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, and GitOps practices using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD, Azure DevOps, or similar
- Expertise with Docker, Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud-native deployment patterns
- Strong understanding of AWS networking, cloud security, observability, SRE principles, and operational best practices
- Experience supporting cloud databases, storage, backup, and data management services
- Excellent communication, collaboration, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar) and enabling engineering teams in their adoption
- AWS Associate or Professional certification, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or equivalent cloud certifications
- Experience building reusable Infrastructure as Code modules, self-service platforms, or internal developer portals
- Knowledge of AWS Organizations, Control Tower, IAM Identity Center, and multi-account governance
- Experience with serverless and event-driven architectures using Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, Step Functions, or Kinesis
- Familiarity with observability platforms such as Datadog, Splunk, OpenTelemetry, or similar
- Understanding of FinOps, cloud cost optimisation, and capacity planning
- Experience supporting AI, machine learning, or data platforms on AWS, including services such as Bedrock or SageMaker
