Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Hanalytica GmbH is currently seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Database Administrator to join a long-term project for one of their clients in the United States. This role will play a central part in a business-critical SQL Server to Azure migration initiative, focusing on the modernization of the client's data infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of SQL Server databases to Microsoft Azure , including assessments, execution, and validation
- Administer and optimize SQL Server instances in Azure , both on Azure VMs and Azure SQL Databases
- Implement and manage AlwaysOn Availability Groups to support high availability and disaster recovery
- Perform daily database tasks including monitoring , performance tuning , backups , and patching
- Work closely with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure a secure and performant database environment
- Review and continuously improve backup and DR strategies
- Support the client’s DevOps practices , using tools like Azure DevOps and Visual Studio Team Services for versioning and deployment workflows
Skills
- 7+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in complex, enterprise environments
- Demonstrated experience migrating SQL Server workloads to Azure
- In-depth knowledge of SQL Server 2016+, including performance tuning, T-SQL, and query optimization
- Experience with AlwaysOn Availability Groups in production environments
- Experience managing both Azure SQL Database and SQL Server on Azure VMs
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools, such as Azure DevOps or TFS
- Ability to troubleshoot performance issues and ensure optimal database health and uptime
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in distributed teams
- Experience with SQL Replication, Service Broker, SSIS/SSRS/SSAS
- Familiarity with PowerShell or Azure CLI scripting
- Experience with containerized database workloads (e.g., Docker + SQL Server)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)
