Job Summary Summary Partner with patients, families, healthcare providers, and interdisciplinary care teams to assess genetic risk, interpret testing results, and provide education and counseling to support informed healthcare decisions. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions -Provide genetic counseling to assess inherited risk, explain diagnoses, discuss testing options, and support patients and families in understanding available care and management strategies. -Mentor and support genetic counselors through clinical guidance, case consultation, and professional development. -Partner with hospital leadership and interdisciplinary stakeholders to develop, implement, and maintain genetic counseling policies, protocols, and best practices. -Lead quality improvement initiatives by monitoring outcomes, evaluating performance metrics, and identifying opportunities to enhance patient care and service delivery. -Collaborate with physicians, nurses, laboratory professionals, and other members of the care team to integrate genetic counseling into comprehensive patient care. -Interpret genetic test results and communicate findings, implications, and next steps in a clear, compassionate, and understandable manner. Qualifications Education Master's degree in Genetic Counseling required, or Master's degree in a related field required Experience cannot be substituted for the required degree. Licensure Current State Genetic Counselor License required Experience 3–5 years of genetic counseling experience required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of genetic counseling principles, clinical practices, and ethical standards. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across multidisciplinary teams and provide compassionate, patient-centered care. Ability to interpret complex genetic information and communicate results clearly to patients, families, and healthcare providers with varying levels of genetic literacy. Demonstrated leadership skills, including mentoring and supporting genetic counselors while contributing to program development and clinical best practices. Excellent organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
