Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Teaching Assistant II to join our team at Flowing Wells Unified School District. As a key member of our educational support staff, you will play a vital role in assisting teachers in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for students with special needs. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers in planning, preparation, and implementation of individualized student objectives and goals, with a focus on self-sufficiency and educational success
- Provide support in special needs areas, including wheelchair transfers, toileting, and behavior management
- Document student progress, medication administration, and medical interventions
- Shadow and support students in mainstream and community environments
- Participate in total school functions and activities, including cafeteria and playground supervision
- Implement specific therapy exercises under the direction of a licensed therapist
Requirements:
- Associate's degree or 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited institution of higher education, or pass a formal state assessment (Parapro test paid for and administered by the district)
- Additional training in child psychology, classroom management, special education needs, or related areas of study (desired)
- General clerical experience and proficiency in computer programs, including Microsoft Excel and Word
- First aid and CPR training required
- Excellent communication and human relation skills, with the ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, parents, and community members
