Albany State University seeks an accomplished leader with a demonstrated track record of visionary leadership and academic acumen to become the next Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost. In addition to being a highly collaborative, results-focused, outward facing academic leader, the ideal candidate for this role will be a strong advocate for both faculty and students alike, balancing the needs across campus in an equitable and effective manner. The successful candidate brings a solid record of inventive program development and academic success along with the skill to lead faculty and staff in establishing and achieving common goals. The position requires familiarity in implementing online education programs. The VPAA and Provost will be externally focused and thoroughly engaged with the surrounding community.
The VPAA and Provost directs the academic programs of the institution, and assumes responsibility for academic planning, teaching, research, extensions, and coordination of interdepartmental affairs (e.g., Admissions, Registrar, and Library). Offering executive level leadership, the VPAA and Provost supervises the work of other directors, including planning and reviewing work.
This position reports to the President and leads the Graduate School, the Darton College of Health Professions, the College of Business, Education and Professional Studies, the College of Arts and Sciences, and Library Services.

- Plans, develops, and evaluates academic programs.
- Oversees accreditation of the institution and its academic programs.
- Coordinates internal administrative review and external regulatory consideration of academic policies, plans, and programs.
- Leads the formulating and implementing of an Academic Affairs strategic plan that is consistent with the University strategic plans and student success initiatives.
- Fosters development of new teaching methods and provides opportunities for faculty development, including research, scholarship, and leadership development.
- Recommends faculty for appointment, promotion, tenure, retention, non-retention, or dismissal for cause.
- Prepares and approves academic budgets.
- Develops mutually beneficial partnerships, collaborations, MOUs, and transfer agreements between the college and business/industry, military bases, not-for-profit organizations, and other educational institutions.
- Serves on the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.
- Earned doctoral or terminal degree.
- Academic credentials consistent with the rank of full or associate professor, or eligibility to be appointed at the rank of full professor at date of hire. Tenure based on experience and previous rank.
- 5-8 years progressive responsibility within higher education.
- Ability to effectively lead and motivate others.
- Skilled in strategic thinking, critical thinking, and problem solving.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to shared governance.
- A commitment to diversity and inclusion in teaching, research, and hiring.
