About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Veterinary Pharmacy Technician I to join our team at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital Pharmacy. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing critical support to our faculty, staff, students, and clients. As a Veterinary Pharmacy Technician I, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation of the pharmacy and delivering high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Pharmacy Patient-Related Care:
- Accurately interpret, fill, and dispense orders and prescriptions
- Prepare and package medications, pharmaceuticals, prescriptions, and returned goods for shipment
- Assist in preparing pharmaceutically elegant, sterile, and stable products using scales, balances, hoods, and autoclave
- Understand and perform all steps involved in the antigen program
- Pharmacy Operations:
- Check daily reports, verify sales, check discrepancies, and balance records
- Maintain, control, and keep accurate records of controlled substances in Cubex Machines, Small Animal Pharmacy, and Large Animal Pharmacy lock boxes
- Adhere to laws and regulations governing the preparation, dispensing, and compounding of prescription drugs, chemicals, and pharmaceutical products
- Participate in the annual physical inventory as well as perpetual inventory
- Assist in the expired drug program and maintain inventory on all pharmacy storage locations
- Communications and Public Relations:
- Interact with clients, faculty, staff, students, and administrators to ensure the highest standard of public relations communication
- Orient veterinary students and assist them in complying with pharmacy policies and procedures and prescription drug laws
- Equipment Management:
- Account for equipment checked out for use in clinics
- Train to be proficient in cleaning and using endoscope equipment and manage Cubex dispensary machines
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Required Education: Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Required Experience: One year of experience in a health-related field
- Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
- Basic computer skills in word processing and data entry
Preferred qualifications include:
- Preferred Education: Associate degree in biomedical sciences or related field
- Preferred Experience: Two years of experience in a health-related field, including one year of experience in a hospital pharmacy
- Preferred Licenses and Certifications: Licensed Pharmacy Technician
- Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge in the use of prescription balance and basic pharmacy calculations
