Role Description: The Volunteer Cinematographer will contribute to the visual storytelling of Spotlight Minds by planning and capturing film content for the company's upcoming short film "How It Used to Be." The filming will take place on July 18th and July 25th, and tasks include collaborating with directors, producers, and editors to interpret creative briefs, plan shot lists, and ensure consistent visual style across productions. Day-to-day tasks may include advising on camera setups, framing, and movement, providing guidance on lighting choices, and reviewing footage to maintain technical and artistic quality. The Volunteer Cinematographer will coordinate schedules with the team and may occasionally support pre-production planning such as storyboarding and location considerations. While this is an unpaid volunteer position, it offers opportunities to build a portfolio and gain experience in a young, collaborative production environment. Qualifications • Ability to operate cameras confidently, with strong Camera Operation skills suited to various shooting conditions. • Knowledge of Video Production workflows, including planning, shooting, and coordinating with post-production teams. • Experience or demonstrated interest in Film Production processes, such as pre-production planning and collaborative on-set practices. • Proficiency in Cinematography principles, including composition, movement, and visual storytelling. • Understanding of Lighting techniques to create mood, clarity, and consistency in visual narratives. • Access to reliable internet and ability to work effectively in a remote, part-time volunteer capacity. • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with openness to feedback and a willingness to learn. • Willingness to work with a group that is 18+. • Prior experience in independent films, student projects, or content creation is beneficial but not required. • Portfolio, demo reel, or sample work showcasing visual storytelling ability is highly preferred. • Must reside in Los Angeles, California.
